Job summary

Roanoke County, VA is seeking a part-time childcare and recreation aide to work Monday through Friday from 1:45 PM to 6:00 PM. The role supports planning and participating in activities for ages 5–12, with emphasis on safety and positive behavior guidance at an assigned location.

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain after hire. Pre-employment training and background checks are completed as part of the process.

Job description

Performs responsible childcare and recreation work in accordance with the program standards for children between the ages of five (5) through twelve (12) at an assigned location. Assists with planning and participating in organized childcare and recreational activities with children.Performs other duties as assigned.

• Shift Hours and/or Days Worked: Monday-Friday, 1:45-6:00pm
• Hours Required for this position: 21.25

• Assists with planning and actively participates with staff and children in activities including games, music, arts, crafts, and playground activities, as well as other appropriate activities
• Observes all activities to ensure the protection and safety of all participants
• Provides a positive and authoritative approach to guiding behavior using age-appropriate limits and choices
• Encourages children to take responsibility for their role in the classroom community

NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Teaches good eating habits and personal hygiene
• Ensures children have proper rest periods
• Ensures each child has individualized support in each activity

Education

Required:High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience

Preferred: Some experience working with children in a structured environment.

Certifications/ Licenses

Additional Requirements

In accordance with State licensing requirements, must be age sixteen(16) or older.Must complete pre-employment training and attend a minimum of 12 hours of childcare related training annually.Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results.Following a conditional offer of employment, must submit to a Tuberculosis test.Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description.
