Job summary

Chess Wizards, Inc. is seeking enthusiastic instructors to lead after-school chess classes for elementary students in Vernon, CT. You will use a structured curriculum, keep sessions engaging, and travel between local schools as needed.

The role offers flexible hours (1–5 classes weekly) with competitive pay per class, mileage reimbursement, training, and the chance to inspire young players while developing classroom management and sportsmanship.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling or similar roles.
• Ability to lead a class independently while keeping sessions interactive and fun.
• Professional, positive and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Desire to model good sportsmanship and positive behavior.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals; explain moves, basic strategy, and simple tactics clearly.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life situations.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Weekday afternoon availability (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes weekly.
• Commitment to school safety policies and reliable, punctual performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use the structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
