Chess Wizards in Bowie, MD is seeking enthusiastic instructors to lead after-school chess classes for elementary students. You will use our structured curriculum to teach fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and create a positive, engaging classroom environment after school hours.

Ideal candidates have experience with groups of children, are reliable and punctual, and can travel between local schools. Flexible schedule (1–5 classes/week), mileage reimbursement, full training, and ongoing support

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain movement, strategy, and simple tactics.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life problem-solving.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Weekday afternoon availability (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to safety protocols and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use our structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
