Job summary

Chess Wizards is seeking enthusiastic, reliable instructors to join our after-school enrichment program in Barnesville, MD. In this role you will lead interactive chess classes for elementary students, using a structured curriculum to teach fundamentals and promote good sportsmanship.

Sessions are in the 2:00 PM–5:00 PM window on weekday afternoons, with 1–5 classes per week. Travel between local schools is required, and mileage is reimbursed.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in teaching, tutoring, coaching, or similar settings.
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly sessions.
• Professional, positive, kid-friendly demeanor.
• Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain piece movement and basic tactics.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Teach chess fundamentals using our curriculum.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols and supervise arrivals/dismissals.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
