Job summary

Middletown Public Schools is seeking an After-School Certified Academic Support teacher to provide 1:1 and small group instruction, enrichment, and snack service within Snow, Spencer and Beman sites. The role supports students with homework and targeted academic activities in a grant-funded program.

Responsibilities include data collection, planning, documenting, and supervising students during program hours.

Qualifications

  • Ability to motivate and engage students in learning activities.
  • Demonstrated Classroom Management and Teambuilding skills.
  • Experience with Project Based Learning and STEAM, preferred;
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff).
  • First Aid/CPR Certification Preferred.

  • Work to develop restorative relationships with students that growth mindset and resilience;
  • Attend and participate in professional development offered by MPS, CREC and 21 CCLC program partners and vendors;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or School Principal.

Reports to: School Principal, Site Coordinator, Chief Academic Officer, and Executive Director of Finance
Broad Function:

The Certified Academic Support Teacher, reporting to the Site Coordinator and School Principal, will provide instruction and academic support to students with homework, 1:1 or small group instruction (high dose tutoring) instruction as required, and enrichment in the afterschool program.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide direct instruction and academic support to students in the after school program;
  • Collect and analyze student data;
  • Plan and facilitate whole and small group instruction, academic enrichment and activities that promote personalized student learning and positive youth development;

Schedule & Salary

After School programs start September 28, 2026. Hours and schedules are Monday - Thursday, 3:25-5:45 pm..

Additional paid hours for staff meetings and/or prep & planning may be required. The After School program follows the school calendar and does not operate on vacation days, half days or early dismissals. Flexible, part-time positions- job-sharing and modified schedules available. Position is grant-funded;

Current hourly rate for certified staff is $31.93, based on MPS contracts; Non-MFT: $16.94-$26.30 per hour, based on certifications, experience and responsibilities.

Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Must be mobile with the ability to get from one location in the office or work site(s) to other locations in the office or work site(s)
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift or carry objects less than thirty (30) pounds
  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing and typing
  • Ability to see and read objects closely, as wiring, labels on equipment, reading/proofreading a report, using a computer monitor, filing and/or retrieving information from a filing system and verifying the accuracy of financial information
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise, as in using a telephone or radio, distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech, including using a radio
  • Ability to learn and acquire an understanding of new information, methodologies and techniques and how they apply to school goals and operations
  • Memory adequate to perform tasks/assignments given over long periods of time
  • Ability to concentrate on a task for more than 60 minutes
