Description

Serving as a dynamic and experienced educator, the Affiliate Instructor prepares the next generation of educators for the Secondary and Special Education 27J INSIGHT Alternative Teacher Licensure Programs (ATLP). This position delivers high-quality, practitioner-focused, and adult-learning-aligned instruction for general education candidates (focused on the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards) and/or Special Education candidates (focused on Special Education standards and laws) in the 27J ATLP. Instructors utilize adult learning and teaching models to facilitate active, student-centered environments that replace traditional lecture structures with high-engagement application. 27J is primarily looking for Affiliate Instructors for Special Education.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Co-Planning: Meet with the program coordinator to tailor licensure coursework and content to the specific, evolving needs of the current teacher candidate in the 27J alt program.
  • Instructional Delivery & Facilitation: Lead high-engagement, 5-hour learning sessions (within a 6-hour monthly block) using adult learning frameworks, inquiry-based discussions, peer feedback, and real-world applications.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Ensure all session content explicitly supports the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards and, where applicable, Special Education and Elementary Content Standards/federal and state laws to prepare candidates for professional licensure.
  • Evidence of Learning & Feedback: Co-develop and/or utilize, assign, and rigorously assess applicable learning assignments tied directly to the module content and standards, providing actionable feedback to licensure candidates.
  • Modeling Best Practices: Consistently demonstrate the TQS in action, including effective communication, professional behavior, and the seamless integration of 27J GELL frameworks and "Thinking Classroom" student-centered methodologies.
Education and Training
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • For Sped-Required: Background in Special Education and Elementary Education.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience
  • Required: At least 5+ years of PK-12 teaching experience. (Secondary teaching experience preferred).
  • Required (Sped): Minimum of 5 years of highly successful PK-12 Special Education teaching experience.
  • Previous experience teaching adult learners.
Skills, Knowledge and Equipment
  • Strong, expert knowledge of pedagogy, general content-specific methods, and progressive instructional strategies.
  • Deep understanding of the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Ability to work dynamically in a collaborative co‑teaching model.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate a "Thinking Classroom" environment (student-centered, active problem-solving) and integrate 27J GELL (Goals, Evidence, Learning Experiences, Learning Environment) principles.
For SPED Assignment

Deep knowledge of special education pedagogy, intervention methods, SDI, and federal/state laws.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License and/or Principal's License (or equivalent professional credential).
  • For SPED Assignment: Valid Colorado Teaching License explicitly containing a Special Education (SPED) endorsement.
Supervision/Technical Responsibility

This position does not directly supervise district employees, but holds professional technical responsibility for guiding, assessing, and signing off on the growth, learning assignments, and instructional competencies of alternative licensure teacher candidates.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Requires clean, clear verbal and written communication skills to deliver monthly 5-hour instruction blocks.
Work Environment

Professional adult learning classroom environments (hybrid or in-person as designated by the SY 2026-2027 program schedule) on Mondays.

Mental Functions: Requires high-level evaluative judgment, critical thinking, adaptability, complex problem-solving, and emotional intelligence to coach diverse adult candidates navigating real-world classroom challenges.

Terms of Employment & Compensation
  • Type: Monthly.
  • Compensation: Paid a flat rate of $300 per month in person course taught and $150 per month half session taught. May teach more than one class throughout the year. The stipend rate is comprehensive and explicitly includes all required hours spent on lesson adaptation, module material preparation using pre-designed curriculum structures, and grading/feedback loops for candidate learning assignments.
  • Benefits: This position is not eligible for standard district benefit coverage, but stipend amount is PERA includable.
