Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Tooling Engineer in Texas to design, build, and implement tooling for flight hardware, from large jig systems to hand tools, with a focus on safety and manufacturability.

You will lead 3D CAD modeling (Creo/Pro-E, CATIA, SolidWorks), perform FEA, develop 2D drawings with GD&T, manage fabrication and installation on the factory floor, and collaborate across manufacturing, industrial, and design teams to drive NPI and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a tool design or mechanical design role for a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo/Pro-E, CATIA, SolidWorks) and the creation of detailed 2D drawings with GD&T.
  • Hands on experience with the complete tool lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, fabrication, and implementation.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural analysis (FEA) and common fabrication methods (machining, welding).

Responsibilities

  • Tooling Design & Analysis: Design and model tooling concepts in 3D CAD (e.g., Creo/Pro-E), performing structural analysis (FEA) to ensure robustness and safety and create detailed 2D drawings with GD&T.
  • Requirements Definition: Capture tooling requirements with manufacturing, industrial, and design engineers to optimize safety, ergonomics, quality, and cycle time.
  • Fabrication Management: Manage procurement and fabrication of tooling with internal machine shops and external vendors; create statements of work and inspect tools.
  • Implementation & Validation: Oversee tooling commissioning on the factory floor, perform proof-loading of lift fixtures, validate tool functionality, and develop work instructions.
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Provide tooling and DFM feedback during New Product Introduction to improve manufacturability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support production with troubleshooting and iterative tool design improvements.
