The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks engineers and scientists to join a multifaceted team that develops physics-based simulations of aerospace and missile systems in support of defense programs. You will analyze capabilities, perform data-driven validation, and connect analysis to system-level understanding.

Baseline requirements include a technical degree, strong programming skills, and a passion for solving complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, CS, Math or Physics).
  • Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Java, or Rust.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem solving; ability to communicate results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and use physics-based simulations to understand performance of aerospace and missile systems.
  • Analyze cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles, autonomous aerial systems, and other systems to understand capabilities and limitations.
  • Use engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, software, and data to answer questions about system performance.
  • Compare simulated predictions with data and continually improve the quality and usefulness of products.
  • Communicate technical results, assumptions, uncertainties, and conclusions to teammates and sponsors.
  • Participate in reviews, experiments, test events, and other activities connecting analytical work to real-world engineering problems.
