Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Software Engineer Intern/Co-op for a Jan–Aug full-time mentorship program. You will develop embedded flight-software for safety‑critical systems and collaborate with AI/ML and systems engineers across aerospace platforms.

You will work on high‑performance, deterministic code, sensor fusion, and real‑time avionics networks, with DO‑178 safety considerations and hands‑on hardware‑in‑the‑loop validation.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in STEM and enrolled through the internship/co-op.
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship/co-op.
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize embedded flight-software for safety-critical systems used in aircraft and military platforms.
• Write high-performance, deterministic embedded software.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, AI/ML specialists, and software engineers to deliver avionics solutions that meet safety and certification requirements.
• Implement and support AI-assisted onboard features such as sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and autonomous control logic.
• Perform debugging and validation using simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
• Ensure DO-178 safety compliance and secure coding practices.
