Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer Leader to drive mechanical design programs for large mechanisms and GSE. You will guide technical direction, establish standards, and mentor a team of engineers to deliver safe, reliable systems through all project phases.

You will manage scope, schedule, and budgets while coordinating with cross-functional partners to ensure launch-site readiness and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience with large-scale mechanisms or GSE.
• 4+ years of direct engineering management or team lead experience.
• Experience leading mechanical design programs from concept through commissioning and operations.
• Experience with ASME Y14.5 GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Experience designing/analysing bolted connections and load-bearing joints.
• Experience with heavy-duty mechanism types (locking, linkages, quick release).
• Experience with dynamic loading, vibration, shock, and fatigue.
• Experience managing external design and fabrication partners throughout lifecycles.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo/Windchill) and FEA software (AN SYS).
• Knowledge of configuration management and document control.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering guidance and set design standards for large mechanisms.
• Lead a team of Mechanical Engineers; recruit, coach, and develop talent.
• Oversee scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality across multiple design programs.
• Coordinate with partners and program managers to ensure safe, launch-ready designs.
