Job summary

Blue Origin Engines seeks a materials testing specialist to design and run mechanical and environmental tests, build test fixtures, and establish best practices for rapid materials development. You will work in a safety-conscious team focused on quality and repeatable spaceflight hardware.

The role involves handling hazardous materials, lifting up to 50 lbs, and occasional overtime or shifts, with relocation and travel up to 10% as noted.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years in material test labs, R&D materials/process development, or similar.
  • Experience with mechanical testing load frames (tension, compression, etc.).
  • Experience with basic hand tools and precision measurement devices (calipers, micrometers).
  • Engineering lab skills: weights/measure, chemical hygiene, safety planning, PPE, contamination control, planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel testing capabilities for mechanical and environmental materials tests (high-temperature, oxidation/corrosion).
  • Perform metallurgical and quality analysis per industry standards (metallography, mechanical testing, NDE).
  • Develop standard methods, training material, and documentation for lab processes.
  • Maintain development equipment and facilities including test equipment, furnaces, welding equipment.
  • Identify new equipment to expand development capability as needs arise.
  • Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals, elevated/cryogenic temps, and high pressure.
