Job summary

AV offers a paid Summer Internship Program designed for hands-on experience in aerospace and defense. As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern, you will design, develop, and test embedded software for unmanned systems alongside experienced engineers.

This 12‑week, onsite program targets highly motivated students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and may include relocation/housing stipends. Opportunities span multiple teams and locations, with detailed program discussion during the interview.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as C, C++, or Python.
• Understanding of memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in writing and testing embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios and other components.
• C/C++ programming for real‑time and bare‑metal systems on microcontrollers.
• Support integration of software with hardware, debugging with lab tools.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems and mechanical engineers for cohesive development.
• Participate in peer reviews, documentation and configuration management.
• Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems for real‑world scenarios.
• Assist in prototypes and proof‑of‑concept demonstrations.
