Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Lead Composite Layup Technician for an Anaheim, CA-based, contract-to-hire role focused on aerospace composite layup, fabrication, and assembly in line with engineering drawings and cure specs.

The position involves directing and training junior technicians, ensuring safe work practices, high-quality craftsmanship, production efficiency, and strict adherence to processes, while coordinating with Quality and Engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on aerospace composite layup experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, ply books, and travelers.
• Strong attention to detail, math skills, and dimensional requirements.
• Proven ability to supervise and communicate with a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee hand layup of composites onto molds and tooling.
• Interpret cure specifications and create correct cure cycles.
• Coordinate cutting, kitting, staging, and material handling per job needs.
• Direct daily fabrication activities to support schedules and quality.
• Ensure adherence to ply books, travelers, drawings, and instructions.
• Provide hands-on technical direction during layup, assembly, and fabrication.
• Verify fiber orientation, ply sequence, and part configuration.
• Oversee resins, adhesives, bonding films, and other materials.
• Supervise vacuum bagging, debulking, and prep for curing.
• Monitor material handling controls and cleanliness; address issues.
• Document manufacturing, traceability, and production records accurately.
• Guide and distribute workload, developing fabrication skills.
• Communicate production status, material needs, and quality concerns to management.
• Promote safety, quality systems, and process compliance.
• Support process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead by example with high standards.
