Job summary

CMI Group – Systems 3 in Tempe, AZ is seeking an experienced 1st shift CNC Lathe Machinist (Setup & Operator) to set up and operate CNC lathes for aerospace and defense components. This role emphasizes first-pass quality, tool and program adjustments, and tight tolerance parts.

You will read drawings, GD&T, edit CNC programs, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams in a fast-paced precision shop.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of CNC lathe setup and operation in precision manufacturing.
• Experience machining close-tolerance aerospace/defense components.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture parts per drawings and specs.
• Load, verify, and edit CNC programs; adjust tooling and offsets as needed.
• Perform first-piece verification and in-process inspections with precision instruments.
• Collaborate with CNC programmers, QA, and production leadership to resolve issues.
• Maintain 5S standards and adhere to AS9100/ITAR requirements where applicable.
