Job summary

CMI Group Aerospace & Defense is seeking a 1st shift CNC Lathe Machinist (Setup & Operator) to set up and operate CNC lathes for aerospace and defense components. This role demands precision, strong problem-solving, and adherence to AS9100 and ITAR standards.

You will read blueprints, edit CNC programs, verify first-piece quality, and collaborate with Engineers and Quality to maintain cycle times and part accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years CNC lathe setup and operation in precision manufacturing.
• Experience machining close-tolerance aerospace/defense components.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience loading, verifying, and editing CNC programs.
• Proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture aerospace parts per drawings.
• Read blueprints and GD&T, verify dimensions, and ensure tolerances.
• Load, verify, and edit CNC programs; adjust tooling and offsets as needed.
• Perform first-piece inspection and in-process checks using precision instruments.
• Collaborate with CNC Programmers, Engineering, and Quality to resolve issues.
• Maintain safe, clean 5S work area and follow AS9100/ITAR requirements.
