Job summary

Astronics PECO in Clackamas, Oregon, is seeking a Buyer/Planner I to support production by preparing and monitoring purchase orders, ensuring material availability, and performing routine planning using MRP systems. You will build strong supplier relationships, monitor material levels, and help manage BOMs and NPI activities.

The role requires collaboration across Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain, with exposure to ITAR-controlled materials and a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.
• Some experience in production purchasing and/or manufacturing planning in a job shop/OEM or similar manufacturing environment preferred.
• Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and how they are used to manage inventory, plan production, and minimize downtime.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas; advanced skills a plus), Word, and presentation software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong ability to work in a team environment across Production, Engineering, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.
• Basic knowledge of lean/throughput techniques and MRP theory; interest in LEAN projects and Kaizen events.
• ASCM/APICS, ISM coursework or related, preferred but not required.
• Experience in regulated aerospace/Government/Defense (ITAR) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and monitor purchase orders and procure materials to support production plans.
• Perform routine MRP analysis in support of forecast and customer requirements; ensure material availability.
• Build and maintain supplier relationships and communicate quality and documentation requirements.
• Monitor material levels and report status to management; identify shortages and schedule adherence.
• Resolve material shortages; escalate and mitigate potential parts shortages.
• Input on supplier performance evaluations.
• Ensure inventory items are purchased from approved sources per internal procedures and standards.
• Release or defer job orders based on MRP demand, capacity, and material availability; analyze capacity to level-load.
• Work closely with Engineering to maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and manufacturing plans, supporting scheduling of NPI activities.
