Job summary

Inversion, an aerospace and defense innovator headquartered in Los Angeles, invites applications for an Avionics Mechanical Engineering Intern in Playa Vista, CA. You will work within the Avionics team to design, build, integrate, and test mechanical hardware enabling flight avionics.

Gain hands-on experience from concept to prototyping, and collaborate with electrical, RF, embedded software, manufacturing, and vehicle engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree program in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internships, laboratories or projects).
• Coursework or projects in mechanical design, structures, materials, or thermal systems.
• Experience with 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Fusion 360, or similar.
• Strong problem-solving and clear written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, integrate and test mechanical hardware for flight avionics systems.
• Package flight computers, electronics, RF systems, sensors, and batteries.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings and documentation.
• Support design reviews, including tolerance analysis, fasteners, interfaces, manufacturability.
• Build prototypes using machining, additive manufacturing, sheet metal, composites or other fabrication processes.
• Assist with vehicle-level avionics integration including mounting and harness routing.
• Participate in environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal cycling, TVAC).
• Troubleshoot mechanical integration issues and rapidly develop hardware solutions.
• Collect, analyze test data and support engineering reports and design documentation.
