Job summary

Inversion, headquartered in Playa Vista, CA, seeks an Avionics Mechanical Engineer to design, build and test mechanical hardware for avionics on spaceflight vehicles. You will collaborate with electrical and production engineers to package flight computers, power, radios, and sensors, and to create robust enclosure designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of internship or experience developing hardware for aerospace/defense.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo).
• Familiarity with Mechanical drawings, assemblies and BOMs.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, fasteners and materials.
• Hands-on experience building, assembling, testing or troubleshooting hardware.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design avionics enclosures, mounting brackets, trays and other secondary structures.
• Support packaging and installation of flight computers, power distribution hardware, batteries, radios and sensors.
• Produce engineering drawings, CAD models, BOMs, assembly instructions and release documents.
• Design for mass, stiffness, thermal performance, vibration, shock and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to define mechanical interfaces and routing.
• Support fabrication, machining, inspection, assembly and integration of avionics hardware.
• Participate in fit checks, bench tests, vibration and thermal tests.
• Coordinate with Production early to ensure designs are manufacturable and schedulable.
• Support vehicle integration by maintaining interface definitions.
