Job summary

Advanced Reentry Technologies in Playa Vista, CA is seeking an Avionics Embedded Software Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. You will collaborate with avionics, embedded software, RF and GNC engineers to develop firmware and software interfaces for flight hardware.

You will gain hands‑on experience with board bring‑up, RTOS based development, and lab validation in a systems‑driven internship focused on embedded software for next‑generation reentry vehicles.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree program in engineering.
• GPA 3.0 or above.
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, lab, or project).
• Embedded systems, computer architecture, operating systems, RTOS concepts.
• Experience programming in C or C++.
• Experience developing software for microcontrollers or embedded hardware.
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, test, and debug flight software and firmware with the avionics team.
• Develop software for microcontrollers, processors, sensors, and interfaces.
• Support board bring‑up and hardware/software integration and debugging interfaces.
• Implement and debug drivers for SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, GPIO, ADCs, etc.
• Create tests and scripts for validation in lab and hardware‑in‑the‑loop setups.
• Document software behavior, interfaces, and test results.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues and verify fixes.
