Verisk is hiring an experienced Payroll professional to join our Corporate Payroll team at our Jersey City, NJ headquarters, with a flexible hybrid work model.
Responsibilities
- Review & reconcile semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
- Reconcile payroll commissions, bonuses, severance, vacation payments, and all payroll cycle changes for accuracy.
- Process employee payments via paychecks or electronic transfers.
- Generate 'off cycle' payments for terminations in accordance with State regulations.
- Calculate and approve payroll liabilities, including federal and state income taxes, social security, unemployment, and workers' compensation payments.
- Prepare final payroll summary reports for electronic distribution.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain payroll policies by updating guidelines and responding to inquiries.
- Complete responsibilities outlined in the annual Performance Plan.
- Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
- At least 5 years of payroll processing experience in a multi-state environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll functions, processing, and FLSA regulations.
- Experience managing cross-functional initiatives and collaboration across finance and other departments.
- Ability to manage and mentor team members.
- Experience with cloud-based HCM systems, preferably Oracle.
- Proficiency in garnishments, supplemental wages, payroll tax laws, benefit calculations, and record retention.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, ambiguous environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
- High level of integrity, honesty, and confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
