Advanced Practice Provider II – (Nurse Practitioner II or Physician Assistant II)

Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a pivotal role within the EVMS Department of Medicine, Hospitalist Division, primarily focusing on night shifts. The APP will manage health issues and coordinate healthcare in progressive or acute care inpatient hospital settings, delivering high-quality patient care both independently and collaboratively with physicians and teaching teams. Responsibilities include conducting health assessments, diagnosing conditions, developing care plans, prescribing treatments, evaluating patient responses, and managing both acute and chronic illnesses. This role offers autonomy during overnight shifts with remote physician support.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate medical problems, develop management plans, request consultations, and manage treatments.
  2. Educate patients and families on preventive care and medical treatments.
  3. Create and document treatment plans, diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes.
  4. Refer complex cases to physicians when necessary.
  5. Provide emergency interventions, prescribe medications, and monitor treatments.
  6. Maintain effective communication with the healthcare team and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  7. Perform initial patient assessments and develop or revise treatment plans accordingly.
  8. Counsel patients and families on health maintenance, medication adjustments, and end-of-life issues.
  9. Ensure confidentiality and handle sensitive issues professionally.
  10. Participate in quality assurance, professional development, and departmental activities.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Nurse Practitioners: MSN with a nurse practitioner focus, licensed RN and certified nurse practitioner in Virginia.
  • Physician Assistants: MPA, licensed Physician Assistant in Virginia.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
