The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant to enhance patient care through administrative support. This role involves scheduling, managing patient information, and ensuring excellent customer service. The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) in the Imaging Service Department impacts patient care from an administrative perspective, including access, scheduling, collecting and updating demographic and insurance information, patient processing, and customer service.

Medical Support Assistant Basic Requirements:
Grandfathering Provision: Employees employed in this occupation on the effective date of this standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements. Employees who do not meet all requirements but were qualified at the time of appointment may be reassigned, promoted, or changed to a lower grade. Employees appointed temporarily before the standard's effective date may not have their appointment extended until they meet the requirements. Employees who leave the occupation lose protected status and must meet full VA qualification standards upon reentry.
Foreign Education: Education completed outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a private organization for equivalency to U.S. education.
Physical Requirements: Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
English Language Proficiency: MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English as per VA Handbook 5005.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required for different grade levels are detailed, including experience in medical support roles, ability to operate computerized systems, knowledge of medical terminology, scheduling, independent work, and communication skills.
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. Participation in pre-employment examinations or evaluations is required, and questions regarding physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed during this process.
