Job summary

Fort Bend County George Memorial Library is seeking a Part-time Library Assistant – Adult to join the reference team. You will assist at reference desks, help patrons use public computers and locate catalog items, and support programming for adults.

You will work with full-time staff, answer reference questions, assist with circulation and databases, and participate in training while maintaining shelves and processing library materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 48 college credit hours.
• Experience working with adults in groups preferred.
• Typing and keyboarding; internet and database searching.
• Good communication skills and ability to interact easily with staff and public.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift library materials up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist full-time staff at reference desks.
• Answer reference questions and refer complex inquiries.
• Assist patrons with public computers, catalog, circulation accounts, Internet, and databases.
• Help with programming for adults, circulation desk duties, and other reference desk tasks as needed.
• Complete assigned shelf-reading duties to keep shelves organized.
• Process books and AV materials as assigned.
• Attend reference training and other educational programs.
• Study and maintain familiarity with databases, online resources, and the reference-book collection.
