Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Part-time Library Assistant in Youth Services at the University Branch. The role involves assisting at reference desks, guiding patrons to public computers and catalog access, and supporting children’s programming.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 48 college hours required; experience with children preferred.
• Typing and keyboarding skills required.
• Computer skills including internet use and database searching.
• Good communication and ability to interact with staff and the public.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist the full-time staff at one of the library’s reference desks.
• Provide answers to reference questions, referring difficult questions to the full-time staff.
• Assist patrons in using public computers to access catalog, accounts, Internet and databases.
• Help with programming for children and other library tasks as needed.
• Complete shelf-reading duties and book/AV processing.
• Attend reference training and study resources to stay familiar with library materials.
