Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Part-time Library Assistant for Youth Services at the University Branch. You will support reference desks, assist patrons with catalogs and databases, and help with programming for children and shelving duties.

The role requires a high school diploma and 48 college credits, plus strong communication and computer skills. The position is part-time (24 hours/week) with inclusion in the county retirement system and full benefits for eligible staff.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and 48 credit hours of college; relevant experience with children preferred.
• Typing and keyboarding skills; computer skills involving internet and database searching.
• Good communication and ability to interact with staff and the public; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist the full-time staff at one of the library’s reference desks.
• Provide answers to reference questions or refer difficult queries to staff.
• Help patrons use public computers to access the catalog, accounts, internet and databases.
• Assist in other areas of the library and complete shelf-reading duties.
• Complete book and AV processing and attend training programs as available.
• Study library resources to stay familiar with information resources.
