Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to support adult services at the University Branch Library in Sugar Land, TX. The role involves assisting at reference desks, helping patrons with catalogs and databases, and processing books and AV materials.

Evening and weekend hours are required, with a pay rate of $15.30 per hour for 24 hours per week. A high school diploma plus 48 college credits are required, and transcripts must be provided; strong communication and computer skills

Qualifications

Requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 48 college credit hours; transcripts required.
Relevant experience working with adults in groups preferred.
Typing and keyboarding skills; computer skills involving Internet and database searching.

Responsibilities

Assist the full-time staff at one of the library’s reference desks.
Provide answers to reference questions; refer complicated questions to full-time staff.
Assist patrons with public computers to access the public catalog, circulation accounts, Internet and databases.
Help in other areas of the library as required, including at circulation or other reference desks.
Complete shelf-reading duties and complete book/AV processing as assigned.
Attend reference training and other educational programs as available.
