Elderwood is seeking a clinical leader for the important role of Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON - RN).
The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and an ability to foster teamwork.
Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) Position Overview:
- The ADON (RN) leads, supports, and ensures the health and well-being of residents by assisting the DON with staffing, staff training, development, and management of personnel in the Nursing department.
- The ADON (RN) assesses residents, performs audits, and ensures compliance with state, local, and federal regulations and best practices within their scope of practice.
- This individual also serves as Infection Control Preventionist.
- Assists the DON in directing and developing nursing activities and staff to deliver quality nursing services in a medical facility.
- Develops, implements, communicates, and interprets nursing policies and procedures that adhere to the State Board of Nursing, State Nurse Practice Act, and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Communicates policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors their implementation.
- Requires RN license.
Responsibilities
- Assume duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence, under the direction of the Administrator.
- Assist in planning the nursing services portion of the resident discharge plan with Social Services.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate nursing personnel, including counseling and recommending employee discipline as necessary.
- Ensure adequate 24-hour nursing coverage in the facility.
- Ensure all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program.
- Assist in determining staffing needs and ensure nurse aide trainees are supervised by licensed nurses.
- Resolve personnel issues, motivate employees, and keep staff informed of relevant changes.
- Develop work assignments, schedule duty hours, and delegate responsibilities to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors.
- Supervise admissions and readmissions for Medicare skilled services eligibility.
- Coordinate therapeutic services such as Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy.
- Monitor resident progress and eligibility for Medicare services, ensuring timely notifications.
- Conduct daily rounds to ensure proper staff performance and resident care standards.
- Provide a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
- Assess resident conditions and monitor medication and treatment schedules.
- Report medication errors and provide direct nursing care as needed.
- Ensure residents who cannot call for help are checked regularly.
Qualifications
- Minimum degree in Nursing from an accredited school.
- Current, active nursing license in the state.
- Baccalaureate degree preferred.
- Knowledge of geriatric long-term care, management principles, supervision, and communication systems.
- Physical examination or physician's statement indicating freedom from communicable diseases upon employment.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
- If driving is required, valid driver's license with a good record and at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in healthcare settings.
- Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
- Computer skills preferred.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at an intermediate or higher level.
