Overview

Under the supervision of the Patient Access Services Manager, the Admitting Representative is responsible for greeting, identifying, and checking in patients, collecting demographic and financial information, posting cash, and coordinating escort upon arrival for services. The role also includes providing superior customer service, using hospital information systems to communicate with patients and visitors, responding to inquiries, and complying with all medical center policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
• Prior experience in healthcare, insurance, or a comparable level.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize.
• Fluent in following instructions; quick and accurate work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Basic PC skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office; typing 30 wpm.
• Articulate and concise oral communication and the ability to write clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work onsite in Oakland.

Preferences

• Two (2) years of recent experience in hospital registration and/or admission procedures.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of government program regulations, Medicare, MIA, CCS, and other third‑party payors.
