Job summary

Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) seeks a temporary Research/Analyst Assistant to support departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Assignment: up to 1,000 hours with broad exposure to operations and reporting.

Responsibilities include researching departmental concerns, preparing reports and grant materials, data analysis, policy interpretation, liaison with other departments, and maintaining databases. A California driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment or graduation from an accredited college with degree in business/public administration or related field; degree may be in progress.
  • At least 1 year of experience providing research and analysis assistance.
  • Experience in social media management, content creation, and digital communications.
  • Experience in graphic design using Canva.
  • Experience supporting event coordination including press events.
  • Experience in video editing for social media and event photography.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting releases and briefing papers.
  • Experience tracking media coverage and compiling media reports.

NOTE: This is a temporary assignment, not to exceed 1,000 hours.

Characteristics of the Class:

Under the general direction of a departmental supervisor, assists in the administration and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Incumbent performs research on departmental issues, disseminates information, develops and prepares documents and reports, and performs related professional and clerical duties. This classification is intended to provide the incumbent with broad exposure to organizational operations; thus, specific duties will vary between departments. The employee receives assignments from the supervisor, who defines objectives, priorities, and deadlines, and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.

  • Performs research on departmental concerns; gathers and analyzes data; prepares and updates reports and correspondence; assists in the preparation and submission of grant applications, requests for proposals, and related materials.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; interprets departmental rules and regulations.
  • Performs liaison with other departments and agencies to gather and disseminates information.
  • Develops and maintains departmental databases, records, and documentation; completes, types, copies, and files standardized documents; informs supervisor of policy and procedural activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Current enrollment or graduation from an accredited junior college or four years university with an associate or bachelor’s degree in business or public administration or closely related field (degree may be in progress); supplemented by one (1) year of experience in providing research and analysis assistance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Undergraduate or graduate students in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Experience in social media management, content creation, and digital communications. Experience in graphic design, particularly using Canva for creating social media graphics, flyers, and marketing materials. Experience supporting event coordination, including press events and community-facing activities. Experience in video editing for social media and event photography. Strong written and verbal communication skills for assistance with drafting press releases and briefing papers. Experience tracking media coverage and compiling media reports.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's License.
