Job summary

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach HEA 112 (First Aid and CPR) per American Red Cross curriculum. Courses may be online, hybrid, or on-campus, with possible variety in duration and scheduling including evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in field.
  • Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/ CPR / AED Certification.
  • Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/ CPR / AED Instructor Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Teach all levels of Health and Physical Education courses as assigned in various formats (online, hybrid, traditional).
  • Supervise students in classroom, laboratory, and other environments (including some off-campus).
  • Develop, prepare and deliver course materials and activities for each course assigned.
  • Develop and advance new innovative techniques and technology for instruction in Health and Physical Education.
  • Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to improve instructional quality.
  • Research and maintain currency in related areas through professional development.
  • Maintain professional certification when required and seek opportunities for professional development.
  • Perform related duties such as developing new courses, modifying existing courses, creating lab manuals and attending department meetings.
  • Abide by policies, standards, goals, and objectives of the college and department.

Job Description Summary

Instruction of HEA 112 (First Aid and CPR ) courses according to the American Red Cross Curriculum. This courses introduces the basics of emergency first aid treatment. Topics include rescue breathing, CPR , first aid for choking and bleeding as well as other first aid procedures.

Duties

1. Teach all levels of Health and Physical Education courses as assigned. Courses may be online, hybrid, or traditional, may be scheduled in 4 week, 8 week or 16 week formats, and may be offered during weekdays, evenings or Saturdays.

2. Supervise students in the classroom, laboratory, and other environments on or off campus as assigned (some off-campus teaching may be required).

3. Develop, prepare and deliver course materials and activities for each course assigned.

4. Develop and advance new innovative techniques and technology for instruction in Health and Physical Education.

5. Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to improve the instructional quality.

6. Research and maintain currency in the related areas of expertise through professional development activities.

7. Maintain professional certification when required and seek opportunities for professional development.

8. Perform related duties such as developing new courses, modifying existing courses, creating new or modifying existing lab manuals and attending department meetings as assigned by supervisor.

9. Abide by policies, standards, goals, and objectives of the college and department.

1. Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education or Master’s degree in related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in field.

2. Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/ CPR / AED Certification.

3. Current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/ CPR / AED Instructor Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

1. College teaching experience.

2. Demonstrated proficiency in foreign language and/or second language, including American Sign Language.
