Responsibilities

• ENG 101 – Teach Composition I, the introductory writing course in the General Education core. This course is designed to be a hands-on workshop that will provide students with an introduction to college writing, including development, argumentation, and the rhetorical situations for producing written communication for a college audience.
• ENG 102 – Teach Composition II, the second writing course in the General Education core sequence. This course is designed to provide students with further experience in college writing, including development with sources, persuasion, logic and analytical thinking, and the transfer of written communication skills to other discipline specific needs.
• ENG 285 – Teach Public Speaking and oral communication in the General Education core. In this course, students learn to give informal and formal speeches/oral presentations based on a variety of communication principles.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or Ph.D in English, English Composition, Linguistics, Communication Studies/Speech Communication and Rhetoric
• Teaching experience is preferable.

Employment Details

• Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basis of the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30.
• Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1.
• It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy.
• Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
