Position Summary:
Dominican University invites applications for adjunct faculty in mathematics. Responsibilities include teaching introductory level course(s) and holding an office hour each week.
Instructors are sought on a rolling basis in anticipation of future program needs. There is no start date or deadline for applications; candidates may be contacted regarding their interest in future opportunities as they arise. Adjunct Faculty appointments are per semester and contingent upon enrollment.
Instructors are sought for the following courses:
Math 090: Basic Skills in Mathematics: The fundamental operations with integers, rational numbers, and real numbers; basic algebra. This course is a developmental course and will not count toward the semester hours required for graduation.
Math 120: Intermediate Algebra: Polynomial and rational expressions; solving linear, quadratic, and rational equations; applications; graphing techniques; and systems of linear equations.
Math 130: College Algebra: Expressions and equations; inequalities; graphing techniques; functions: linear, quadratic, power, absolute value, exponential, and logarithmic; applications.
Math 211: Principles of Statistics: Design of experiments, numerical and graphical data description, discrete and continuous probability, expected value and variance of a random variable, probability distributions, estimation, and statistical hypothesis testing.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching introductory mathematics courses.
Responsibilities:
Adjunct faculty are responsible for the following:
- Adhere to the university policies, procedures, and university calendar with respect to reporting information to university offices.
- Administer student evaluation and timely and accurately submitting the required paperwork related to instruction, including grades and course evaluations.
- Grade weekly assignments, respond to student emails and phone calls promptly, and provide feedback in a timely manner.
- Prepare course materials, including writing test questions and delivering assignments appropriate to the subject matter.
- Meet with students and host office hours.
- Adhere to the goals and objectives of the course, as guided by the Department Chair.

Salary and FLSA Status
- Salary: $1,000 - $3,500. The actual pay is determined based on credentials, experience, course level, and credit hours.
