  • PLACEMENT: Salary depends on qualifications
  • Hiring Rate Per Contact Hour: Fall 2024 - Summer 2025: $1005 (Bachelor's/Master's), $1056 (Ph.D, Ed.D, J.D); Fall 2025 - Summer 2026: $1030 (Bachelor's/Master's), $1082 (Ph.D, Ed.D, J.D)

Position Summary:

An adjunct instructor is hired for one semester to teach courses aligned with their qualifications. The instructor reports to the Instructional Coordinator or Director, providing quality instruction and working with full-time staff to assess students and adhere to course guidelines. Willingness to teach at various campus sites is required. Preferences for locations and loads can be submitted. The position is governed by the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction in assigned subject areas.
  • Monitor student progress, report outcomes, and refer students for additional support as needed.
  • Participate in evaluations and adhere to curriculum, grading, attendance, and assessment standards.
  • Attend classes regularly and communicate effectively with staff and students.
  • Retain students through goal attainment and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including FERPA and ADA.
  • Support the college's mission and fulfill contractual obligations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach one to two sections of General Biology or related courses each semester.
  2. Collaborate with college staff and programs on curriculum and support.
  3. Be willing to teach online and/or hybrid courses.
  4. Employ effective and innovative teaching methods.
  5. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships, demonstrating cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
  6. Show commitment to the community college mission.
  7. Teach at other campus sites as needed.
  8. Meet contractual obligations as per the faculty contract.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Biology or a closely related field with emphasis on organismal biology.
  • Two years of collegiate teaching experience.
  • Ability to foster cooperative relationships, demonstrating cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
  • Commitment to the college's core values.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Biology with emphasis on Organismal Biology or related field.
  • Experience teaching at the community college level.
  • Proficiency with instructional technologies and online course management.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish, verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
