Job summary

Young Mens Christian Association Of Southwestern Indiana in Evansville, IN is seeking an Early Learning Classroom Float to support multiple classrooms and help create a safe, nurturing environment for children.

You will assist teachers, supervise activities, and help maintain daily routines across the Early Learning Center while building positive relationships with children, families, and staff. This role requires flexibility, dependability, and a commitment to YMCA safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Must meet Indiana child care licensing requirements for the position.
• Previous experience with young children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
• Complete required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures for supervising youth and managing high‑risk activities.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Maintain program quality and safety per YMCA policies and licensing.
• Provide coverage across classrooms for staffing needs while maintaining child‑to‑staff ratios.
• Assist teachers with developmentally appropriate activities, routines, and meaningful play.
• Support children’s social‑emotional development through positive guidance and relationships.
• Assist with daily care routines (meals, handwashing, rest, indoor/outdoor play).
• Help prepare, organize, clean, and maintain classroom materials and environments.
• Observe children and communicate information to teachers and leadership.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and center events.
• Follow dress code set by the association.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
