Job summary

You will interpret results, develop goals and therapy programs, teach staff and patients, participate in committees, and mentor students. Requirements: Master's in Communication Disorders, MA SLP license, CCC-SLP, BLS, 1–3 years' experience, and strong MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide autonomous evaluation and treatment for speech, language, voice, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Interpret evaluation results and make management and treatment recommendations.
  • Develop goals and therapeutic programs; identify diagnosis and prognosis and discuss plans of care.
  • Provide therapy using procedures, equipment/devices, and teaching interventions.
  • Re-evaluate patients and modify plans of care as needed.
  • Manage a defined caseload and complete billing, records, data collection, and quality assurance/improvement activities.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental committees, meetings, in-services, journal clubs, and case conferences.
  • Teach patients, families, residents, nurses, and hospital staff; provide clinical instruction to graduate students and orient support staff.

Job description

  • Provide autonomous evaluation and treatment services for patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive-linguistic, and/or swallowing disorders
  • Provide services on inpatient and outpatient bases
  • Conduct videofluoroscopic oropharyngeal swallowing, FEES, and/or videostroboscopic voice evaluations
  • Interpret evaluation results and make recommendations for management and treatment
  • Develop goals and therapeutic programs; identify diagnosis and prognosis and discuss plans of care
  • Provide therapy using therapeutic procedures, equipment/devices, and teaching interventions
  • Re-evaluate patients and modify plans of care as needed
  • Manage a defined caseload and complete billing, records, data collection, and quality assurance/improvement activities
  • Participate in hospital and departmental committees, meetings, in-services, journal clubs, and case conferences
  • Teach patients, families, residents, nurses, and hospital staff
  • Provide clinical instruction to graduate students and orient support staff
  • Prepare and present clinical in-services and interdepartmental/external educational lectures
  • Act as a clinical resource to new staff or students in one content area
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology required
  • Massachusetts Speech-Language Pathologist license required; out-of-state licensed pathologists must obtain Massachusetts licensure before start date
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology required and verified through www.Asha.org
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • 1–3 years of related work experience required
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications
  • Written and oral communication in English
  • Must not be a Clinical Fellow
  • Ability to provide care to middle-age and elderly patients
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently; must stand and/or move around for most of the shift
  • Preferred: previous acute care experience, including ventilator and/or tracheotomy tube patients
  • Preferred: previous outpatient voice clinic experience, including trans-nasal endoscopy
