Job summary

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a per diem Speech Language Pathologist to join the acute care team in Newton, MA. Work primarily on weekdays with one weekend day per month and some holidays; onsite at 2014 Washington Street.

You will perform comprehensive swallow and communication assessments, MBSS and FEES as needed, educate patients and caregivers, and document findings. Requires MA license, ASHA certification preferred, 2 years acute care experience; MBSS/FEES independence preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
• Current, unrestricted license and certification as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ASHA. ASHA membership required.
• Current CPR certification.
• At least two years of acute care/LTACH/acute rehab experience.
• Independence in MBSS (required) and FEES (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive assessment and management of adult inpatients with disorders of swallowing, selecting evaluation procedures that reflect an in depth understanding of the patient's diagnosis, abilities, and limitations.
• Comprehensive assessment and management of adult inpatients with acute disorders of speech, language, and cognition.
• Patient and caregiver education regarding evaluation findings and management of care recommendations
• Communication of patient care and discharge needs to healthcare team members, arranging for appropriate follow-up as indicated
• Completion of clear and thorough written documentation in a timely manner in accordance with facility and departmental guidelines
• Serve as a clinical resource to colleagues and other medical professionals
• Stay current with advances in speech-language pathology assessment/treatment techniques through attendance of professional meetings, continuing education, and reading of current literature.
