Job summary

Horace Mann Educators Corporation is seeking an L&R Actuarial Intern for the summer of 2027. You will gain hands-on experience in life and retirement product development, modeling, and financial analysis tailored for educators, under supervision from senior team members.

You’ll work on pricing, profitability analysis, assumption setting, and competitive analysis, with opportunities to learn regulatory aspects and automation of spreadsheets in a hybrid arrangement requiring weekly travel to

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, business, or related field.
A minimum of one Actuarial exam through either the SOA or CAS must be completed.

Responsibilities

Assist in building, maintaining, and running actuarial projection models (MG-ALFA or Excel-based tools) to evaluate profitability.
Help prepare profit summaries, sensitivity testing, and risk analysis for senior audiences.
Work with pricing assumptions such as mortality, lapse rates, and expenses to learn their impact on profitability.
Review competitor product pricing, design, and features to position Horace Mann products.
Identify opportunities to improve or automate spreadsheets to drive team efficiency.
Participate in department and project meetings, contributing ideas and collaborating cross-functionally.
