Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, business, or related field.
• A minimum of one Actuarial exam through SOA or CAS must be completed.
• Strong proficiency in statistical analysis.
• Expertise in MS Excel and other programs to be utilized daily.
• Savvy with the R programming language.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze large datasets to study insurance claims, policyholder information, and related data.
• Use Excel and R to clean, organize, and analyze data sets.
• Participate in department and project meetings, contributing ideas and collaborating cross-functionally.
• Assess risks and help price and reserve for insurance products.
• Support actuaries in calculations of premiums, reserves, and risk levels.
• Learn about Horace Mann products and actuarial considerations within them.
• Develop and update financial models to forecast trends and outcomes.
• Shadow experienced actuaries and engage with professionals at Horace Mann.
