Job summary

Catholic Charities of New York is seeking an Activity Specialist to help participants grow artistically. This part-time role focuses on developing, teaching and maintaining scheduled activities across arts disciplines.

You will organize exhibitions, performances, field trips, and assist with recruitment and attendance tracking, while supporting program staff and reporting to the Program Director. Requirements include high school diploma or GED, 1 year in Creative Arts, lesson planning

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
• 1 years experience in the field and high level of knowledge in Creative Arts
• Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings
• Experience with lesson plan development

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scheduled activities across arts disciplines (arts, theater, music, dance, poetry).
• Organize art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with recruitment and retention of participants; maintain attendance records.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director; attend staff meetings and trainings.

Summary:

Activity Specialist is responsible for helping participants grow artistically.

Hourly Rate Range - $18-$20.00 an hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Responsible for developing, teaching & maintaining scheduled Activities.
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
• Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with the recruitment and retention of participants.
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
• Organize and create program performances costumes.
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
• Ensure the cleanliness and presence of all of the space used by the program participant
• Responsible for keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
• Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events
• Assist other staff when needed
• Other duties as assigned

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position. Days and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday 6pm to 1Opm, & some Saturdays 12am to 5pm. 6pm - 11pm August-September.

• Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
• Move for long periods, providing instruction.
• Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
