Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; working toward AA or BA degree is a plus.
  • 1 year of experience in the field with strong knowledge in Creative Arts.
  • Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings.
  • Experience with lesson plan development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, teach, and maintain scheduled activities.
  • Develop arts, theater, music, dance and poetry programs.
  • Organize and create art exhibitions, performances, and poetry jams.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of participants.
  • Maintain bulletin boards and create event flyers.
  • Supervise field trips to art, theater, and dance activities.
  • Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
  • Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of program spaces.
  • Keep Program Director informed of changes.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Program Director.

Job description

Summary:

Activity Specialist is responsible for helping participants grow artistically.

Hourly Rate Range - $18-$20.00 an hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Responsible for developing, teaching & maintaining scheduled Activities.
  • Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
  • Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of participants.
  • Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
  • Organize and create program performances costumes.
  • Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
  • Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
  • Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
  • Ensure the cleanliness and presence of all of the space used by the program participant
  • Responsible for keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
  • Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events
  • Assist other staff when needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position. Days and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday 6pm to 1Opm, & some Saturdays 12am to 5pm. 6pm - 11pm August-September.

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction.
  • Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
Qualifications
Education and/or experience required:
  • High School Diploma or GED; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
  • 1 years experience in the field and high level of knowledge in Creative Arts
  • Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings
  • Experience with lesson plan development
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
