Job summary

Catholic Charities and Catholic Charities Community Services in New York seeks an Activity Specialist to help participants grow artistically, teaching and organizing arts programming in a supportive environment.

This part-time role involves evenings and some Saturdays, with a focus on cultivating creativity across arts disciplines and coordinating events, exhibitions, and field trips. Strong interpersonal skills and group-instruction experience are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AA/BA degree a plus
• Must be at least 18 years old
• 1 year experience in the field and knowledge in Creative Arts
• Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings
• Experience with lesson plan development
• Move for long periods and travel for field trips

Responsibilities

• Develop, teach & maintain scheduled Activities
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry
• Organize art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams
• Recruit and retain participants
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events
• Organize program performances costumes
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance trips
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
• Ensure cleanliness of all spaces used by the program
• Keep Program Director informed of changes
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and events
• Assist other staff as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Summary:

Activity Specialist is responsible for helping participants grow artistically.

Hourly Rate-$18-$20.00 an hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Responsible for developing, teaching & maintaining scheduled Activities.
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
• Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with the recruitment and retention of participants.
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
• Organize and create program performances costumes.
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
• Ensure the cleanliness and presence of all of the space used by the program participant
• Responsible for keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
• Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events
• Assist other staff when needed
• Other duties as assigned

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position. Days and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday 6pm to 1Opm, & some Saturdays 12am to 5pm. 6pm - 11pm August-September.

Working conditions and physical demands required:

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
• Move for long periods, providing instruction.
• Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
