Job summary

Catholic Charities of New York seeks an Activity Specialist to help participants grow artistically through structured arts activities and supervised programs. The role supports development in arts forms and arrangements for field trips and exhibitions.

You will assist with recruitment, maintain attendance, and help coordinate performances, costumes, and event materials while collaborating with staff and parents to ensure engaging, safe experiences for youth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AA or BA degree a plus.
• 1+ years experience in the field with knowledge in Creative Arts.
• Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings.
• Experience with lesson plan development.
• Background checks required per DOE, DYCD, DOH and SACC regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, teach & maintain scheduled Activities.
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
• Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with recruitment and retention of participants.
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
• Organize and create program performances costumes.
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
• Ensure the cleanliness and presence of all space used by the program participant.
• Inform Program Director of changes and abnormalities promptly.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director.
• Attend program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
• Assist other staff when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate Range $18-$20.00 an hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Responsible for developing, teaching & maintaining scheduled Activities.

• Responsible for keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
• Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events
• Assist other staff when needed
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
• Move for long periods, providing instruction.
• Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.

Qualifications

Education and/or experience required:

• High School Diploma or GED; working towards or possessing AA or BA degree a plus.
• 1 years experience in the field and high level of knowledge in Creative Arts
• Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings
• Experience with lesson plan development
• Submit to background checks in compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOH and SACC regulations.
