Job summary

Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of New York is seeking an Activity Specialist to help participants grow artistically. The position offers an hourly rate of $18-$20 and supports arts activities across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities include developing and teaching activities, organizing exhibitions and performances, and assisting with recruitment. A high school diploma and at least 1 year in creative arts are required; background checks will be conducted.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AA/BA degree a plus.
• 1 year experience in the field and high level of knowledge in Creative Arts
• Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings
• Experience with lesson plan development
• Submit to background checks in compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOH and SACC regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach scheduled activities for participants.
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
• Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with recruitment and retention of participants.
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
• Organize program performances costumes.
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
• Ensure cleanliness and presence of all space used by the program.
• Keep Program Director informed of changes and issues.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and events.
• Assist other staff when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Responsible for developing, teaching & maintaining scheduled Activities.
• Develop and maintain arts, theater, music, dance and poetry.
• Organize and create art exhibitions, dance routines, theater presentations, music recitals and poetry jams.
• Assist with the recruitment and retention of participants.
• Maintain site bulletin boards and produce flyers for events.
• Organize and create program performances costumes.
• Accompany participants to art, theater, and dance related trips.
• Maintain daily attendance for all courses.
• Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
• Ensure the cleanliness and presence of all of the space used by the program participant
• Responsible for keeping the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
• Submit weekly reports to the Program Director on a timely basis.
• Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events
• Assist other staff when needed
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
• Move for long periods, providing instruction.
• Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
