Job summary

Pomeroy Living in Lake Orion, MI seeks an energetic Activity Director to lead a diverse team and create engaging programs for residents.

You will design monthly calendars across social, recreational, educational, cultural, and wellness activities, supervise staff and volunteers, and collaborate with nursing, dining, and families to enhance quality of life.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and leading recreational or activity programming, preferably in senior living or healthcare.
• Strong leadership and team mentoring abilities.
• Ability to create varied activity calendars across multiple modalities.
• CTRS or CAD certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop the activity team and volunteers.
• Create a varied monthly activity calendar that includes social, recreational, educational, cultural, physical, spiritual, entertainment, and wellness programming.
• Offer a mix of large group, small group, and individual activities based on resident interests and abilities.
• Be visible and actively involved in the community.
• Monitor participation and identify residents who are not regularly engaging in programming.
• Get to know residents and develop creative ways to engage those reluctant to participate.
• Plan outings, special events, celebrations, and experiences residents look forward to.
• Build relationships with families, community organizations, entertainers, volunteers, and local partners.
• Work closely with nursing, dining, leadership, and other departments to create a strong resident experience.
• Maintain documentation and ensure the activity program meets regulatory requirements and Pomeroy Living standards.

At Pomeroy Living, we believe a great activity program is not measured by how full the calendar looks. It is measured by whether residents are participating, connecting with others, trying new things, and genuinely enjoying where they live.

We are looking for a creative, energetic Activity Director who knows how to make that happen for our Lake Orion, MI location.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands that our residents have different interests, abilities, backgrounds, and personalities. The same residents should not be the only ones attending activities every day. Our goal is to create enough variety and opportunity that every resident can find something that interests them and gives them a reason to participate.

What You Will Do

• Lead, coach, and develop the activity team and volunteers.
• Create a varied monthly activity calendar that includes social, recreational, educational, cultural, physical, spiritual, entertainment, and wellness programming.
• Offer a mix of large group, small group, and individual activities based on resident interests and abilities.
• Be visible and actively involved in the community. This is not a position that is managed from behind a desk.
• Monitor participation and identify residents who are not regularly engaging in programming.
• Get to know residents personally and develop creative ways to engage residents who may be reluctant to participate.
• Regularly ask residents what they want to do and use their feedback to improve programming.
• Plan outings, special events, celebrations, entertainment, and experiences that residents look forward to.
• Build relationships with families, community organizations, entertainers, volunteers, and local partners.
• Work closely with nursing, dining, leadership, and other departments to create a strong overall resident experience.
• Maintain required documentation and ensure the activity program meets applicable regulatory requirements and Pomeroy Living standards.

• The right candidate will be organized, creative, dependable, comfortable leading a team, and willing to jump in and participate.
• Candidates should have experience developing and leading recreational or activity programming, preferably in senior living or healthcare.
• CTRS, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or CAD, Certified Activity Director, certification is preferred. Candidates with strong senior living activity experience and other applicable qualifications are encouraged to apply.
