Job summary

Birchwood Terrace Rehabilitation and HealthCare is seeking an Activities Assistant to join our devoted team. You will support individualized activities, small group programs, and large events, working closely with the Activity Director and care team to enhance socialization and quality of life for residents.

Activities Assistant

Birchwood Terrace Rehabilitation and HealthCare is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and creative Activities Assistant to join our team. The Activities Assistant helps create a welcoming and engaging environment for our residents by supporting individualized activities, small group programs, and facility-wide events.

Job Summary

The Activities Assistant organizes and participates in person-centered activity programming, including one-on-one activities, small group programs, and large group events. This position works closely with the Activity Director and care team to provide meaningful opportunities that promote socialization, stimulation, comfort, and quality of life for our residents.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with older adults and brings a positive, friendly, and engaging approach to a long-term care environment.

Qualifications

• Friendly, compassionate, and professional when interacting with residents, families, staff, volunteers, and community organizations.

• Enjoys working with older adults and creating meaningful experiences for residents in a long-term care setting.

• Able to work collaboratively with nursing, therapy, dietary, and other facility staff as part of the resident care team.

• Demonstrates patience, flexibility, and appropriate coping skills when working with residents experiencing cognitive, emotional, or physical changes.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Previous experience working with older adults in a recreational, healthcare, senior living, or nursing setting is preferred.

• Two (2) years of related experience is preferred but not required.

Essential Functions

• Assist the Activity Director with planning and implementing daily and monthly activity programming.

• Lead and participate in individual, small group, and large group activities.

• Provide person-centered activities based on residents’ interests, abilities, preferences, and needs.

• Utilize a variety of approaches and activities, including music, art, pet therapy, games, exercise, reminiscence, and other therapeutic recreational programs.

• Encourage resident participation and promote socialization, independence, comfort, and overall quality of life.

• Utilize the facility environment to provide stimulation, engagement, and comfort for residents.

• Foster a strong sense of community within Birchwood Terrace Rehabilitation and HealthCare.

• Assist with decorating the facility and preparing for special events, holidays, seasonal programs, and celebrations.

• Maintain accurate records of activities, resident participation, and attendance as required.

• Assist with organizing, storing, and maintaining activity supplies and equipment.

• Clean and organize activity areas following programs and events.

• Communicate resident participation, interests, and observations to the Activity Director and appropriate members of the care team.

• Maintain confidentiality and protect resident privacy in accordance with facility policies and applicable regulations.

• Perform all responsibilities in accordance with Birchwood Terrace Rehabilitation and HealthCare policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and professional standards.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
