Summary: The primary purpose is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state, and company standards, guidelines, and regulations. The director is to ensure that an ongoing program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  2. Coordinate, develop, and maintain a quality activity program utilizing staff expertise, family, and community resources.
  3. Provide an activity program that meets the needs and interests of the residents and complies with state, federal, and corporate expectations.
  4. Develop and organize individual and group activities for a wide variety of interests, from music to intellectually stimulating activities to special events.
  5. Interview and assess all residents prior to the initial resident care planning conference, enter assessment information into the medical record, and regularly update assessments and plans.
  6. Develop an activity plan with measurable objectives consistent with the resident's care plan and physician's orders.
  7. Document residents' progress on a timely basis.
  8. Organize the activity calendar and programs to meet residents' needs and interests, ensure proper posting, and communicate calendar functions throughout the facility.
  9. Maintain a log of residents' attendance in activity programs, organize and monitor volunteer records and reports.
  10. Plan and maintain a budget; submit quarterly reports to the Executive Director regarding budget, Resident Council, volunteer participation, and resident engagement.
  11. Supervise assistants and volunteers, coordinate their recruitment, orientation, and training, and evaluate staff performance.
  12. Coordinate the development of the facility newsletter and media releases.
  13. Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the activity program and modify it as necessary; arrange community outings.
  14. Offer religious programs considering resident preferences.
  15. Assist in organizing and developing the Resident's Council; ensure minutes are recorded and submitted promptly.
  16. Engage the community through outreach programs, guest speakers, entertainment, voting drives, etc.

Duties:

  • Attend and contribute to department head and resident care plan meetings. Lead departmental educational programs.
  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss policies, complaints, and service improvements, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications:

Education: BS in Recreation or related field preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: NCCAP certification required.

Experience: Three to five years of related experience in a long-term care setting.
