Job description

As an Activities Assistant at Silverfern North, an independent senior living community, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a wide range of activities and events to enhance the well-being and quality of life for our residents. Your role is to create a vibrant and engaging social atmosphere that fosters positive interactions, active participation, and overall happiness within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Activities & Engagement:
  2. Collaborate with the Activities Director to plan and organize a variety of social, recreational, and cultural activities suitable for seniors.
  3. Actively engage with residents to identify their interests, preferences, and needs.
  4. Encourage residents to participate in activities and promote a sense of community.
  5. Lead, facilitate, or assist with the execution of activities, including but not limited to arts and crafts, games, exercise classes, educational workshops, and outings.
  6. Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to residents during activities.
  7. Help plan and implement themed decorations and settings for special events and holidays.
  8. Create a festive and inviting atmosphere for celebrations.
  9. Maintain an inventory of activity materials, supplies, and equipment.
  10. Ensure all necessary materials are readily available for each activity.
  11. Outings and Excursions:
  12. Assist in organizing trips and outings to local attractions, events, and scenic destinations.
  13. Ensure resident safety and comfort during off-site excursions.
  14. Communication:
  15. Communicate regularly with residents, families, and staff regarding upcoming activities and events.
  16. Gather and address resident feedback and suggestions for future activities.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or coursework in recreation, hospitality, or gerontology is a plus.
  2. Previous experience as an activities assistant in a senior living, hospitality, or recreational setting is preferred.
  3. Creative, enthusiastic, and compassionate nature.
  4. Strong organizational and communication skills.
  5. Ability to adapt to the needs and abilities of diverse residents.
  6. Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
