Job summary

Southwestern Community College is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant to manage the accurate processing, payment, and reconciliation of all accounts payable activities within the Business Office.

You will verify approvals, maintain supporting documentation, and generate monthly/year-end AP reports while ensuring compliance with state and college procedures. A valid NC driver’s license is preferred where applicable.

Qualifications

• AA required; relevant experience in Accounting may be substituted.
• Preferred: AAS in Accounting or related field.
• 1–2 years of office experience; basic bookkeeping; proficiency with Excel and basic database programs.

Responsibilities

• Process invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, blanket orders, and payment requests with required approvals and documentation.
• Voucher invoices, purchase orders, blanket orders, travel reimbursements, and other disbursements in Colleague.
• Run accounts payable check Runs; prepare checks and reports; distribute payments per timelines.
• Verify checks and ensure proper posting to Core Banking/positive pay; handle holds and cashier processing as needed.
• Maintain AP records for State/Local/Institutional funds; manage vouchers and backup.
• Process travel advances/reimbursements with receipts and proper accounting codes.
• Calculate, record and remit use tax; coordinate with NC Department of Revenue.
