Job summary

The Cyperus Group is seeking an Accounting Associate specializing in Accounts Payable in New York City, NY. This is a full-time, six-month contract with strong potential for permanent hire, offering $35.00/hour.

You will manage vendor payments, maintain records, and support month-end processes in a collaborative nonprofit finance team. Ideal candidates hold an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, with at least 2 years' AP experience and solid Excel/Outlook/Word/Teams

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of Accounts Payable experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial documentation.
• Experience processing high-volume invoices and vendor payments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable transactions accurately and timely.
• Review invoices and supporting documentation for proper approval and compliance.
• Maintain vendor records, including W-9 documentation and tax-related files.
• Assist with annual 1099 preparation and reporting.
• Support payment processing activities, including check runs and electronic payments.
• Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies and vendor inquiries.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting records.
• Assist with financial reporting and other accounting projects as needed.
• Ensure adherence to organizational accounting policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with internal departments to support efficient payment workflows.

The Cyperus Group is conducting a search on behalf of a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing and supportive services throughout the New York metropolitan area. This organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Associate with a focus on Accounts Payable to join its finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and has experience managing vendor payments, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end accounting activities.
