Job summary

IDA in Alexandria, VA, is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to perform routine to complex day-to-day operations in support of accounts payable administration under minimal supervision. The role includes reviewing expense reports, vendor invoices, and payment requests, ensuring compliance with policies, and assisting with vendor inquiries.

You'll interact with multiple departments, enter vouchers, process payments by EFT or check, and help train junior staff.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Experience with computers, automated accounting systems and/or electronic travel system.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and exercise discretion.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance may be required.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Review expense reports, vendor invoices and payment requests for completeness and policy compliance.
• Match invoices with purchase orders and payment requests; determine schedules and amounts.
• Code invoices and allocate costs according to policy.
• Enter vouchers into the financial system.
• Process vendor or employee payments by EFT or check.
• Enter and update vendor information; ensure tax and banking documentation.
• Serve as liaison between departments and vendors to resolve issues.
• Provide task-specific guidance to junior staff as appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
